Inquiries and consultations
The Commonwealth Government, Australian Human Rights Commission, Australian Communications and Media Authority, and industry bodies frequently engage the public and interested parties in consultations about their views and knowledge on access issues.
How to make a submission
The Commonwealth Government and the Australian Human Rights Commission often seek submissions from industry bodies, consumer representative groups, and other relevant parties, but almost always welcome submissions from the general public and individuals as well.
Submissions by Media Access Australia
Media Access Australia (MAA) participates in many inquiries and consultations into access to electronic media.
The Convergence Review
In December 2010, the Department of Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy launched the process of review of convergent media, which looked at Australia's communications and media legislation with a view to advising the Commonwealth Government on potential amendments to keep our regulatory framework effective and appropriate for the new environment. The Convergence Review Final Report was released on 30 April 2012. It makes no mention of access issues.
Media Access Review
The Commonwealth Government has finalised the Media Access Review, a review of access to electronic media for the hearing- and vision-impaired. The review covers television, DVDs, cinema and new and convergent media.
