The Accessibility Internet Rally (AIR), run by the non-profit organisation Knowbility, is an eight-hour competition where volunteer web designers and developers come together to help non-profit organisations build accessible websites.
Web developers and designers who participate in the competition share their knowledge and expertise with non-profit organisations to implement best practice techniques for creating websites that can be accessed by as many people as possible – regardless of their abilities.
There were two categories of winners announced.
The winners of the Accessibility and Advanced Features category include:
- First Place: Unchain My Art, who designed the Austin Jazz Alliance website. The Austin Jazz Alliance is a jazz music network that helps musicians in Austin and Central Texas, U.S.A to promote their work.
- Second Place: The Headspring Hurwitzes, who designed the Texa TERA website. Texa TERA is a resource and advocacy organisation that aims to empower people with disabilities
The winners of the Basic Accessibility category include:
- First Place: Team TradeMark, who designed the All Blind Children of Texas website. The All Blind Children of Texas organisation provides support to children who are blind or vision impaired and their families.
- Second Place: Team Fahrenheit, who designed the Phronoesis Media website. The Phronoesis Media website promotes well-being by providing resources on political and economic issues in the US.
