Following on from last week’s announcement regarding developments in the accessible cinema roll-out for the major cinema chains, Media Access Australia would like to remind cinema fans that three new locations will begin captioned screenings from 30 December 2010.

Closed captions using the new CaptiView system will be available from 30 December 2010 on one screen each at:

These new locations will each have 10 CaptiView units on site, accommodating up to 10 Deaf and hearing impaired patrons at one time.

Patrons should check their local cinema website to confirm the availability of an online booking service from 30 December 2010. Media Access Australia’s Your Local Cinema website will also have movie and cinema information.

Media Access Australia encourages patrons to book online or with the cinema directly, prior to the session, to ensure the availability of a CaptiView unit. Your feedback on the new system and your experience at the cinema would be appreciated. Please send feedback to accessible.cinema@fahcsia.gov.au.

Audio description for the blind and vision impaired will not be available in these cinemas until sometime in 2011.
