YouTube has added another feature that allows users to view and interact with a transcript of captions that is generated from any YouTube video that has been captioned.

YouTube has supported closed captions for nearly two years now, and during that time has introduced additional features to support captioning such as CaptionTube, a web-based captioning editor and their automated captioning service in March this year.

A new feature just added to YouTube automatically generates an Interactive transcript of captions for any YouTube video with closed captions, with each caption time stamped appropriately. You can click on the ‘transcript’ button in YouTube to view the entire transcript, and search it using your web browser’s native search feature.

A very useful feature for all users is that you can click on an individual caption and the YouTube video will skip to that frame in the video, allowing you to effectively ‘seek’ or navigate via captions. See an example of video that includes a transcript on YouTube.
