Hearing impairment and Parkour probably aren’t concepts that many people immediately group together, but a new Sydney Opera House production combines street style dance with captions for people who are Deaf or have a hearing impairment.

Closed Captions now available for NZ parliamentary broadcasts

An estimated one in nine New Zealanders use captions when watching TV. Up until recently, live broadcasts of Parliament weren’t captioned, meaning that a significant number of people were unable to observe their elected representatives at work. But following a campaign begun in 2011, all that is in the past.

New literary magazine provides digital access for those with a disability

The Deaf Poets Society is a digital journal for writers with disabilities that was launched in August 2016. It was created to offer people of all abilities an accessible way to access writers with a variety of disabilities, from the USA and around the world.

Ai-Media wins captioning contract for ‘BBC Worldwide ANZ’

Ai-Media has been given a contract renewal to provide broadcast captioning for BBC Worldwide Australia & New Zealand (ANZ) for a further three years. In the deal, they will continue to supply captioning for BBC First, UKTV, BBC Knowledge and CBeebies on broadcast platforms across both territories.

Media Access Australia appoints new CEO

Dr Manisha Amin has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer of leading Not For Profit web and digital accessibility organisation, Media Access Australia. Her appointment by the Board of Directors will see her join the team on Monday 5 September.

Microsoft rolls out Windows 10 update with accessibility improvements

Microsoft has commenced rolling out a major new update to its Windows 10 operating systems on desktop, laptop and tablet devices, bringing a number of new features which include benefits to people with disabilities.

Cortana, Microsoft’s digital assistant, can now be used from the locked screen which can potentially benefit people with a mobility impairment in providing greater control of the device through verbal commands when the screen is locked
