The TED-Ed channel features lessons submitted by teachers which are turned into less than ten minute animated videos designed to grab and hold students’ attention. Although the channel is in the early stages of development, the amount of content available has already increased since its launch just a few days ago.
Videos on the channel are organised into Playlists including How Things Work, Awesome Nature and Playing With Language.
Beyond TED-Ed, there is an increasing amount of captioned education video available via YouTube. To find other captioned videos simply:
- Enter keywords in the search bar as normal on YouTube.
- When a page of results appears, select ‘filter’ (located on the left side of the screen) and then ‘closed captions.’ This will then limit the results to only those which are closed captioned.
- The captions can be turned on or off using the CC button at the bottom right of the video frame.
The work of Media Access Australia’s Education team is focused on the need for captioned multimedia in the classroom. Turning on captions has been shown to improve engagement and literacy for all students and is an essential element of the inclusive classroom.
