Australia’s only university-accredited online web accessibility course aims to increase the level of web and digital access for people with a disability. By taking the six-week PCWA, web professionals can upskill with an internationally-recognised professional certificate course that will improve your skillset and your career prospects too.

The next intake of the six-week Professional Certificate in Web Accessibility (PCWA) course kicks off on 8 August, and is taking enrolments now. It teaches Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0, Section 508 in the USA plus more global standards, along with practical accessibility skills and techniques in an easy-to-schedule online format.
This hands-on course was created by Media Access Australia in conjunction with the University of S.A. and is now in its fifth year, with course updates incorporated into every intake to ensure the very latest information is taught.
W3C Advisory Committee Representative and Digital Accessibility Director at Media Access Australia, Dr Scott Hollier, is the senior lecturer of this course that is training a wide variety of people to become experts in web accessibility.
“The Certificate ensures key players within an organisation or department are upskilled in accessibility compliance,” says Dr Hollier. “It’s also useful for solo specialists who want a deeper understanding of the issues and the practical fixes around online accessibility.”
“Those who can really benefit from improving knowledge and skills around accessibility in the web and digital space include web developers and designers, software programmers, analysts, user experience designers, IT engineers, scrum masters, content writers, web masters, project managers, access and inclusion specialists, and communications staff.”
People who are interested in taking the course can watch a highlights video covering what the PCWA is focused on, the benefits of taking the course, and how it has helped many graduates upskill and move forward with new expertise. There’s also feedback from recent graduates on the student testimonials webpage.
Dr Hollier is very pleased with the results achieved by the last intake of graduates. “It’s great to see so many people from Australia and around the world successfully completing the course and incorporating accessibility into their work practices,” he said. “The final assignment really demonstrated just how people can come together from around the world to contribute and collaborate on an accessibility project.”
The current intake of the course runs from Monday 8 August to Friday 16 September 2016 and the cut-off date for enrolments is 5pm Tuesday 26 July 2016.
