The change of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) from trial sites to a staged rollout, starting next year in NSW and Victoria, is a major event in the disability service sector.

With participants in the Scheme having the ability to choose their preferred organisation to deliver their support, existing service providers need to rapidly change their business approaches and practices towards a customer-centric approach and away from a centralised, “the government is my client” focus.
New providers will come into the market who will already be operating this way. But there are many organisations who will need to re-think how they communicate about their products and services.
Being able to get in touch with your market in accessible ways will be a basic entry need.
The NDIS New World Conference: Disability in the 21st Century major conference is in Brisbane at the end of October and it will be an opportunity to further refine approaches and seek help to make businesses accessible to people with disabilities.
The conference will showcase innovative and effective technology solutions designed to transform and enhance the lives of people with a disability, their families and their carers.
This technology revolution is in line with the deliverables of NDIS itself, aiming to enable greater control and choice for people with a disability.
Media Access Australia is a sponsor of the conference and will be releasing its updated Service Providers Accessibility Guide. This is a newer version of the original guide funded and launched by the NDIS two years ago.
The guide provides practical, real-world information on how you can ensure your website, digital content, digital promotions and social media meet accessibility standards.
It is the first step to helping you put the person with a disability in the centre of your interactions and communications.
The author of the guide, international digital accessibility expert, Dr Scott Hollier, will be presenting at the conference and will be talking about how service providers can engage with technology more effectively to ensure they reach the maximum number of participants in the Scheme.
Media Access Australia will also have a stand in the exhibition area with staff on hand to answer your accessibility questions and help you with a range of accessibility services that we offer.
