Last week we reported on Seven becoming the first commercial network in Australia to make its catch-up TV service accessible to viewers who are Deaf or hearing impaired. This week, we share our favourite shows available on the platform with captions.

Some of Seven’s most popular programs including Winners and Losers and A Place to Call Home remain uncaptioned online. My Kitchen Rules and Home and Away are currently the only Australian programs that have captions available on Plus7.

There is no way yet of searching for captioned shows on Plus7, and viewers only know if the program is captioned once the episode starts playing after the first advertisement.  If captions are available a “CC” button will appear on the control bar at the bottom of the video. For captioned shows, the captions are available on the main episodes, not behind the scenes extras.

Our favourites

Parks and Recreation, season 5

This quirky American sitcom has become a cult hit. Featuring comedian Amy Poehler, the series follows the day-to-day dramas of Leslie Knope, director of the Pawnee Indiana parks department, as she tries to make a big difference in a small town.

Resurrection, season 1

This brand new drama explores what happens when residents of a small Missouri town find their loved ones have come back from the grave. With season one just airing in the US now, it is one of the most watched shows in the world.

Once Upon A Time, season 3

A small town in Maine is inhabited by fairy tale characters. Newcomer Emma Swan (Jennifer Morrison from House) unravels the mystery as good and evil battle for control over Storybrook. This series is suitable for children over 12.

Revenge, season 3

The wealthy community of the Hamptons is rocked by the arrival of Emily Thorne, an heiress determined to avenge her father’s death. 6.7 million people in the US watched the most recent episode, making it one of the most popular shows on TV right now.

Parenthood, season 5

Based on the famed movie by Ron Howard, Parenthood follows three branches of the Braverman family as the parents struggle to raise their kids amongst the complexities of modern life. Starring Lauren Graham (Gilmore Girls) and Peter Krause(Six Feet Under), the series strikes comedic highs and dramatic lows.
