WA Accessibility Camp agenda now available

The agenda for the WA accessibility camp to be held on 1 August 2014 is now available. The event is headlined with keynotes by Alec Coles from the Western Australian Museum based on the topic ‘An Accessible Museum for WA’, and MAA’s own Dr Scott Hollier speaking about recent advances on accessibility and cloud computing.

The full agenda is as follows:

9:15 – 9:30: Registration

Session 1 – Keynotes

9:30 – 9:45: Introduction (Morgan Strong)
9:45 – 10:15: An Accessible Museum for WA (Alec Coles)
10:15 – 10:45: Accessibility in the cloud (Dr. Scott Hollier)

The Western Australian web accessibility community have come together to create a second Accessibility Camp day to be held on 1 August 2014.

Winners of US Awards for Advancement in Accessibility announced

America’s communications regulator, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has announced the winners of the 2014 FCC Chairman Awards for Advancement in Accessibility.

The awards, presented at the M-Enabling Summit, seek to recognise innovators who develop communications technology for people with disabilities.

This year, seven award categories were available, including Advanced Communication Services (ACS), Employment Opportunities, Closed Captions, Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, Mobile Web Browsers, Social Media and Video Description.

YouTube is a popular video sharing website. It contains a variety of user-generated videos including user reviews of products and short original videos. YouTube also has a range of professionally created content including clips from television shows and commercials, movie clips and music videos. Users who visit the YouTube website can view these videos, but only people who have registered with the website can put videos online.

Roberta: The ability to buy an airline ticket online is a service that should be available to all people but the recent outcome of the law suit filed against Jet Blue Airways and California State doesn’t see it that way.

Today Sarah Pulis, manager of Digital Media and Technology from Media Access Australia is going to talk to us about the law suit against Jet Blue Airways and what the outcomes means for people with disabilities. So joining us in the studio is Sarah, hi Sarah.
