Media Access Australia today added a new section to our website, detailing information about the Commonwealth Government’s Convergence Review.

The new section includes an overview of The Department of Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy’s (the DBCDE’s) review into convergent media, with details of how you can get involved.

‘Convergence’ refers to the major communications platforms (broadcasting, telecommunications and online) that are coming together so that their once separate functions now overlap. An example of this is catch-up television online or smartphones, which have both internet and telephone capabilities.

Media Access Australia believes that all Australians, including those who are blind, vision impaired, Deaf and hearing impaired, have the right to access all forms of media, including convergent media.

At present, the DBCDE is calling for responses to the Convergence Review Framing Paper. Responses are due by 10 June 2011.
