Vision Australia will be providing audio description for the first time during the Sydney Festival this month. Three diverse events in late January will offer patrons who are blind and vision impaired the opportunity to listen to audio description delivered live, describing the visual elements of the performance.

The three performances are:

  • Buried City at the Belvoir St. Theatre on Saturday 21 January at 2pm. This world premiere theatre production explores ever-changing cities where immigrants make new lives on old land.
  • West Side Story at the Concert Hall of the Sydney Opera House on Saturday 28 January at 2pm. The Sydney Symphony plays Leonard Bernstein's definitive score live, while the newly remastered film is shown in high definition with the original vocals and dialogue.
  • Beautiful Burnout at the Seymour Centre on Sunday 29 January at 2pm. Tony-nominated playwright Bryony Lavery and 2008 Festival favourites, the National Theatre of Scotland, present a physical theatre piece told from a boxing ring on a revolving stage. An athletic cast sweats, skips and punches at the dreams and terrors of gifted young boxers, with music by Underworld.

For tickets phone Sydney Festival on 02 8248 6500 and state you would like to receive the audio description service.
