Entries are now open for the 2012 Deafness Forum of Australia Captioning Awards which recognise the contributions and achievements made towards improving the quality, frequency and use of captions in Australia.

This year marks the first year of a set of new award categories and a simplified nomination process, designed to make it easier for people to submit a nomination and open up nominations to a wider range of organisations and individuals.

The new award categories are:

  • TV Captioning
  • Entertainment, Cinema and the Arts Captioning
  • Online Captioning and Digital Innovation
  • Captions for Kids
  • Award for Organisational Commitment to Captioning
  • Roma Wood Community Award

Anyone is invited to submit nominations for the awards and any individual or organisation operating in Australia can be nominated. Previous winners include ABC iView, Ai-Media, Fox Sports, professional captioner Javier Arriaga and Disability Policy Advisor at ACCAN, Wayne Hawkins.

Nominations must be made before 9am on 1 October 2012 via the form on the Deafness Forum of Australia website. Winners will be announced at the formal Awards dinner in Sydney on Thursday, 25 October 2012.

Media Access Australia is a major sponsor of the Awards.
