How to access Flickr

Choose the size of photos

A number of Flickr users cited concerns in the Flickr forums that there is no option for members to resize the photos that appear in group pools. Many users are unable to make out what is in the thumbnail images, so they need to peruse each group one image at a time. A time consuming task.

Although this problem has not been resolved, a greasemonkey script is available that allows users to resize the photos on the contacts page. You can access this script at userscripts.org and also access a full installation description.

Greasemonkey is a Mozilla Firefox add-on that allows users to install scripts that make on-the-fly changes to HTML web pages. You can download Mozilla Firefox from their company website and you can also download Greasemonkey at the Firefox Add-on pages. There are a wide variety of Flickr-related scripts that are very useful.

Blind photographers

Many legally blind people photograph and exhibit their work. This was recently noted in a Time article titled ‘The Art and Heart of Blind Photographers’. There are over 150 members of a group started by Tim O’Brien, and Flickr itself maintains a blind photography group with almost 200 members.

There are a number of other groups that relate to photography and people who are blind or vision impaired.
