Accessible Education Database
The Accessible Education Database (AED) is a catalogue designed to provide a list of titles that are captioned, and includes a synopsis, key words and list of related subjects (where available).
In partnership with the Captioning Grant the AED endeavors to increase access to audiovisual education material for students who are Deaf or hearing impaired. The AED was developed as a result of the gaps in access for students with hearing impairment in their ability to access audiovisual resources, and an awareness of the difficulties encountered by teachers in sourcing captioned educational titles.
The database encourages the attitude of ‘captions first choice, only choice’ and facilitates the efficient sourcing of captioned content. It is designed to encourage further teacher discussion and liaison, and recognises the value of the input and ownership of educators.
