Access in the classroom
The work of the Education team at Media Access Australia focuses on promoting, supporting and developing initiatives to assist students with sensory impairment.
Multimedia resources are used in schools to support the curriculum. Students with sensory impairment need to access these educational materials using captions or audio description.
The use of captions and audio description provide context and crucial information that is necessary to comprehend the message. Class discussions, assignments and assessments are often based on audiovisual content shown in class. Resources used in the classroom without access technologies, place students in danger of being left behind. Equity of access to audiovisual materials needs to be a given for all students.
