Policy and expectations

There are no general requirements for DVDs to have access services.  However, any DVD whose feature film format was financed by Screen Australia must be captioned.  Screen Australia is also looking into the adoption of an audio description policy, in keeping with its captioning policy.  Furthermore, the Commonwealth Government will ask Screen Australia to require the films it funds to be audio described.

The Australian Home Entertainment Distributors Association encourages its members to import audio described and captioned DVDs from international sources where possible.
